HOW LONG DID PANGAEA LAST?

Alfred Wegener developed the Pangaea super-continent theory in 1912. He believed that a primeval super-continent separated into the major continents existing today. Pangaea means all land because Panthalassa , which is the super world ocean, surrounded 50 percent of the Earth’s primeval surface landmass. During the global flood of Noah’s generation (Genesis 7:15-20), Pangaea began to break apart before it was completely divided into the major continents of Peleg’s day (Genesis 10:25). Pangaea’s northern segments, called Laurasia, are composed of all the present-day northern continents, and its southern sections, called Gondwana, include the present-day southern continents, which receded rapidly. This geophysical activity resulted in the formation of the Atlantic and Indian oceans. Pangaea was simply the pre-flood Earth.

The pre-flood Earth lasted for 10 generations from Adam to Noah. According to Hebrew Biblical chronology, the pre-flood Earth lasted for 1656 years beginning in 4,001 BCE and ending in 2345 BCE. However, the Greek Septuagint Old Testament Scriptures, which Messiah Yeshua and His Apostles probably quoted, offers a time span of 2256 years beginning in 5554 BCE and ending 3,298 BCE. If the Septuagint Old Testament Scriptures contain a gap of 446 years, then God made the pre-flood Earth around 6,001 BCE before destroying the super-continent in 3,745 BCE.  Because the early Church Fathers adopted the Septuagint chronology and the Septuagint timeframe fits better with known historical dates, then the pre-flood Earth probably lasted for 2256 years (5554 BCE – 3298 BCE) before Pangaea’s complete separation 531 years later in Peleg’s generation (2767 BCE).  The 531 years existing between Noah’s flood and Peleg’s day was enough time for the building of the Tower of Babel, and the migration of animal and human populations from the Middle Eastern regions into other areas worldwide before the complete division of Pangaea in Peleg’s day.  After the days of Peleg, the post-flood Earth became similar in appearance to the present Earth with seven major continents.

The global flood resulted in radical changes to the planet Earth.  First, the pre-flood Earth was a single super-continent called Pangaea, but the post-flood Earth is no longer a single land mass anymore because God divided it and fragmented it into large continents and small islands. Second, while God decorated the pre-flood Earth with lush vegetation, much of the post-flood Earth is wasteland, deserts, ice covered regions, mountains, and canyons. Third, there existed similar climatic variations throughout the pre-flood world, but the post-flood distribution of the land mass triggered severe climatic variations worldwide, which resulted in hurricanes and tornadoes. Fourth, the Earth’s crust is not a single shell, but is broken into at least a dozen major plates, where volcanic action characterizes these points of separation. There are live volcanoes in many parts of the post-flood Earth, on land, and under the oceans. The historic geophysical actions have decorated the current Earth with s

pecific earthquake zones.

Finally, according to Revelation 21:1, the prophet said, “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.” The language of this passage appears to suggest that God will recreate a Pangaea like supercontinent following the fiery renovation of the Earth’s surface.  Earth’s future land mass will likely cover the planet by 60 percent with 40 percent water remaining on its surface.
