What is the Genesis Creation Revelation Theory?

The Genesis Creation Revelation Theory (GCRT) argues that Moses wrote and edited the Genesis Creation Account during his seven-day vision and revelation of creation history, while fasting atop Mount Sinai.   The author employed the language of visual appearance rather than the language of precise scientific description. The GCRT teaches that God made the universe and planet Earth during the dateless past  (Genesis 1:1) before renovating the surface of the planet Earth and creating life on the Earth  (Genesis 1:2-31, 2:4).

In other words, the GCRT say Genesis chapter one and parts of Genesis chapter two describe Moses’ creation vision. Many proponents of this view argue that God revealed the creation events to Moses during six consecutive days, and each day shows creation history, while others argue that each day only represents what God revealed to Moses. Duane Garrett argues that the seven creation days have a six plus one HEPTADIC structure, which scholars find elsewhere in apocalyptic literature. In Revelation 6:1-8:1; 8:2-11:19; and 16:1- 21, “the pattern is of six related events followed by a seventh”: seven seals, seven trumpets, and seven bowls of wrath, with the seventh component of each series fundamentally different from the preceding six. Garrett continues, “But there is more in parallel here than form alone. Both are similar in objective because both give an historic and eschatological perspective. Revelation gives human history’s heavenly view with dramatic illustrations of its culmination. Likewise, Genesis chapter one focuses on the universe’s creation, its history, and its destiny. Garrett believes that Moses, who is the premier prophet in the Old Testament Hebrew Scriptures, decorates Genesis 1:1 to 2:4 with visionary and revelatory depictions. He believes that Moses is the direct author of this material. Garrett finds the six plus one pattern in one other place, in Exodus 24:16-18, where Moses ascends Mt. Sinai. On the first six days, the cloud covers the mountain. On the seventh day, Moses goes up into the cloud. Consequently, Garrett argues that the days in Genesis chapter one are “seven days of divine revelation to Moses”.  Because each creation day began during the evening and concluded during the morning, some supporters of this view believe that Moses seven visions began during the evening before ending in the morning. Therefore, these were seven night visions of creation history.

Genesis Creation Day One

Creation day one begins with the creation of the universe. The Creator formed the universe from nothing when “God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). This single declaration depicts the transformation of pure energy into all fundamental forms of matter (E=MC2 equation). E=MC2 explains everything from galaxy formation to human creation. “Now the Earth was formless and empty, darkness over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God hovered over the waters,” says the next verse (Genesis 1:2). The cosmos as we know it was not created by chance. The circumstances of creation were carefully designed. No life and order would develop from an uncontrolled “big bang” if it were unmindful. However, a beginning expansion of newly generated physical matter, followed by an orderly formation of stars, galaxies, and everything else is reasonable, rational, and logical. Thus, the six days describe the formation of pre-existing matter in preparation for the creation of people. While the Bible gives no dates for the universe’s origin, many young Earth creation scientists think it happened within the last 10,000 years. The cosmos is 8,000 years old, according to astronomer Barry Setterfield’s studies on light degradation (6,000 BCE). Global gravitational space-time dilation, according to Dr. Russell Humphrey, occurred around 6,000 years ago (4,000 BCE). Hugh Ross, John Lennox, and Gerald Schroeder are among the scientists who think the universe is between 10 and 16 billion years old. Life emerged on Earth roughly 3,600,000,000 years ago, according to secular scientists. To be fair, many of the arguments put out by secular evolutionary apologists and progressive creation scientists are based on philosophical naturalism rather than empirical observation and experimentation. As of today, no one knows how old the cosmos, Earth, or life is. For example, dating the age of the universe using its constituents is like dating a watch using the time it displays. According to Dr. Lee Warren, this means no one can tell the actual age of the watch or the watchmaker.

Creation day one continues with the appearance of visible sunlight. Light was admitted, but not created when sunlight struck Earth. However, the sun could not be seen since it was gloomy and cloudy. Maybe it was a thick layer of mist or frozen ice, but maybe it was hydro carboniferous gases discharged from the Earth’s center during creation. Earth may be billions of years old. According to Job 38:4-9, the original Earth was covered in darkness.

Genesis Creation Day Two

On creation day two, God had to eliminate the surrounding seas in order to build land on the third day. For the ‘waters above the firmament’, we may presume that geological events generated a lot of heat. A primitive sky with many rain clouds created.  There probably was no water vapor canopy formed during this day. To view the sun, moon, and dim stars, the sky had to be clear by the fourth day.

Genesis Creation Day Three

On creation day three, God raised the landmasses, causing the waves to withdraw into one huge ocean. Landmasses are granite ‘blocks’ embedded in basaltic rocks. “Let the seas gather” implies just one ocean. “Let the dry land appear” implies a single supercontinent. In other words, God formed a Supercontinent. This was God’s pre-flood Earth. God created only plants. No one knows how God formed these plants. The Creator may have supernaturally planted the seeds and watched them develop at His command immediately.

Genesis Creation Day Four

On creation day four, the sun, moon, and stars appeared in the sky. They were not created on the fourth day. However, ‘made to appear’ is probably what occurred. The sky remained gloomy until the fourth day, when the wind continued to clear it enough to view dim stars. These stars existed before the creation week during the dateless past. Light from faraway stars takes millions or perhaps billions of years to reach Earth. However, if the speed of light was faster during the past, then these stars may  only be thousands of years old.

Genesis Creation Day Five

On creation day five, the water and the air were clean, and God introduced marine and aerial life. These creatures included fishes, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, birds, and insects. The fossil record show that these creatures were larger in size probably because they lived longer in an environment designed for maximum genetic expression. God created many other life forms during the “Fifth Day”, but only the fishes and birds are mentioned.

Genesis Creation Day Six

On creation day six, God created land animals and humankind. This day’s work include, but was not limited to the creation of land dwelling insects, reptiles, and mammals, flightless birds, along with sauropod and theropod dinosaurs. Each time a major branch of life is introduced, the biblical term ‘after its kind’ is employed. Species is a more contemporary term. No species has ever evolved into another. All evidence points to the impossibility of such large leaps. With millions of years and millions of tiny differences within a species, evolutionists assume species will evolve. The fossil exhibits do not support that claim. The Creator’s ‘Opening Ceremony’ is the Creation Acts. Everything was perfectly arranged to emerge instantaneously as God spoke. They show His might and wisdom.

Genesis Creation Day Seven

On creation day seven, God concluded His work. It is apparent from Exodus 20:11 and Exodus 31:17: “For in six days the Lord formed heaven and earth, the sea, and everything that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed and sanctified the SABBATH day.” According to the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Septuagint version of the Bible, God ceased working on the seventh day, indicating that God was never fatigued. The seventh day is an example to humanity to work six days and rest one day.

Analysis of GCRT

While GCRT appears to solve the problems between modern science and biblical creation, there is insufficient evidence for this view in the Holy Sc

riptures. For some bible scholars, GCRT cannot be employed to defend long creation days because Moses wrote in Exodus 20:11 and Exodus 31:17 that in six days God made the heavens and Earth and all physical existence. While other scholars argue, that GCRT allows for longer creation days because Exodus 20:11 and Exodus 31:17 only refers to days of revelation and not the exact time of special creation. GCRT only presents a possible explanation concerning how Moses received the history of creation.
