Has the policy of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) been scrapped?

Since the conclusion of World War II, MAD has stopped a full-scale conflict between countries equipped with nuclear weapons. On the other hand, MAD will eventually be rendered irrelevant. It’s possible that we’ve just arrived at that point, or at the very least, made a significant advance in that direction. The notion known as mutually assured destruction refers to the situation in which two nuclear nations fight one another. The general consensus among people these days is that World War III will end up wiping out all members of the human race. But, the prevalent wisdom is incorrect. A whole new age characterized by technological advancements will make MAD obsolete. And once they do, these emerging technologies will give rise to a single, unified, global empire that will rule the planet. The present conflict between Russia and Ukraine is accelerating the development of the next generation of contemporary warfare: drones that are outfitted with swarm technology and artificial intelligence (Britt Gillette, 2023).

Due to the fact that swarm technology is the future of combat, synchronized drones will, in the not too distant future, get smaller and smaller, quicker and faster, and ever more powerful. They will be used in an assault by one country against another nation that is solely equipped with conventional weapons. What do you think will happen when a traditional army is attacked by a swarm of combat drones that move in a hive-like formation? How effective would tank fire or heat-seeking missiles be against a swarm if they are aimed at it? They will have the same level of success as shooting a shotgun into a hive full of bees. Countries such as China, Iran, and Russia are now moving in this direction. Those countries who are slower to adjust to new circumstances will be dominated by those that are the first to develop swarm technology. This is a point that history has repeatedly driven home for us. The use of charging columns of men was successful in the past, before the invention of machine guns. Before the invention of armored tanks, cavalry charges led by men on horseback were also successful. We can all point to innumerable instances of how advancements in military technology have rendered previously effective weapons and strategies outdated, such as what is happening in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine right now. The promise of swarm technology and artificial intelligence will be realized in the not-too-distant future, and this will result in a dramatic shift in the existing global power structure (Britt Gillette, 2023).
